Give me
an “I”, give me an “A”, give me another “A”, give me a “P” and what do
you have IAAP, one more time IAAP!
While taking some classes and receiving much encouragement from Mrs.
Emma Faulk and the late Dr. Marlene Adams I became interested in the
International Association of Administrative Professionals, formerly
Professionals Secretaries International, and joined the State Capital
Chapter of IAAP in 1997. Currently I am a charter member of Alabama
State University Chapter of IAAP since 2004. Over the years, I have
served in many capacities. I often say I did not get a chance to “sit
down” for one year before I was nominated as an officer,
Secretary-1998-2000; Vice President – 2000-2001;
President-Elect-2001-2002 and President-2002-2003. I have chaired
various committees in the Chapter and on the Division Level. I was
Alabama Division’s New Chapter Builder Chairman from 2000-2002 and was
recognized during the Business Session at the International Convention
in Nashville, TN in July 2002. In 2004-2006 I served as Student Chapter
Chairman and launched the first “AIR Student Newsletter.” I served two
terms as Treasurer on the Division Board and currently serve as
Secretary.
I received the Capital Achievement Award for 1998-1999 from State
Capital Chapter of IAAP. I am the recipient of Alabama State
University’s President’s Staff Excellence Award (Secretarial/Clerical)
for 2001.
I am a member of First Christian Methodist Episcopal Church where I sing
in the Youth and Young Adult Choir; oversee the “Bulletin Board”
Ministry, Secretary/Treasurer of Stewardess Board #I and Recording
Steward. I was a District Stewardess Queen candidate for the Montgomery/Phenix
City/Opelika District.
I have one son, Yancey. In my spare time I enjoy shopping, reading
romance novels, scrap booking and spending time with family and friends.
I have been employed with Alabama State University since 1988 and
currently serve as the Administrative Assistant to the Vice President
for Student Affairs.
